Item Number: 4014 Title: Woman's Edition Chicago Evening Journal for the Benefit of the Maternity Hospital, November 1st, 1895 Artist: Unsigned Date: Nov. 1, 1895 Size: 22"x32" Comments: Lovely and very rare American Art Nouveau era poster for Chicago Evening Journal. This was for a single week's edition, so a very limited number were printed, and I am sure very few survived. This falls in the "American Literary" posters.. American avant garde poster artists of the era focused their efforts on posters promoting, magazines, newspapers and books. This is unusually large for a poster in this series, and the image of a new mother tenderly holding her infant is very affecting and sensitive. I have never seen another specimen. Also adding to the appeal...a rubber stamp imprint at the lower right of "Sagot Paris"..this poster made its way to Paris in the 1890s and was sold to collectors by the famed poster dealer and publisher Sagot. Price: Sold Condition: B+, linen mounted, fine color (printed in subtle shades, text in gray) Back To US Advertising Posters
